Purpose of cords ... cord making ....

Cord making.   Left - diagonal weave, worsted wool yarn.  Right - Loop finger braid, cotton crochet fiber.

 Lucet tool + cord.

Re. question/comment, about the purpose of the finger weaving, loop braids, lucet tool ... The Lafayette Lacemakers demonstrate annually at the Feast of the Hunters' Moon.   The use of cords, straps, was essential for that time period.  Photo above, me in costume, tatting. Hand made cords are used to lace up vests, or to tie on a drinking vessel, or tie/cord for skirts, pockets (pockets were separate tear drop shaped bags tied to the waist).

The past couple of Lafayette Lacemakers meetings:

"For the next couple of meetings, we are going to acquaint ourselves with some of the period appropriate (Feast of the Hunters' Moon) fiber activities that people would see if they came into our homes (huts or tents).

Diagonal Finger Weaving ....

So, I missed the last gathering of the Lafayette Lacemakers.
The Lafayette Lacemakers meet q month.   And, as things happen, DH had a program the same day.

Meanwhile, I received a link to a you tube video.   (below)  And I tried to create a diagonal finger weaving / strap. (above).  So far, so good.   Will continue : )

With knitting needles, take out chopstix, clip board, binder clips, and worsted weight yarn I had on hand, I was able to get the hang of the finger weaving pattern.   Cool Beans!!!

Dorset Button Workshop: Cartwheel

On Tuesday afternoon, I had my introduction (zoom) class on Dorset Buttons.
Dorset "Cartwheel" Button with Anna McDowell.
Anna McDowell's site is Henry's Buttons.   She is a delightful instructor.
Such a talented and creative artist.    Facebook link HERE.

The class (zoom) I took was thru the Lace Museum.  What a spectacular line up of classes available.

I can see exactly where I stopped, when class ended ... and where I picked it up later in the evening.
A little tension difference!

The kit has an extra ring - so, I think my next one will look nicer.
Will need to remember to do the rounding at the same time.

The button was made on a 25mm ring.

Marble Queen - Epipremnum

I don't have a 'green' thumb.
I've had plants in my kitchen 30+ years.
About every 15 years I need to put in new ones.

The last batch, didn't last very long.
Back to the nursery for a new plant -
Epipremnum - Marble Queen.

Trash Trekkers

Earlier today, DH and I volunteered for the Indiana Trash Trekkers.   When we went to the Visitor's Center, it was suggested we go to the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk for litter.   link here.We were given gloves and a heavy bag for the trash!

I'd never been to this location.   It was overcast and we easily filled our bag with litter.

(DH photo above)

More about the program.

After our clean - up, we took a walk /loop.
