CQ Block: Task Ten (of 12)

 Fargo Roses.   Challenge for them to be the same size.   Challenge to have them look similar.   

 CQ Block (so far).   I have two more tasks to do before it can be a finish.   This is part of Kathy Seaman Shaw's BCQC-101 class.   More information can be found here:   http://www.shawkl.com/.

 Woven Roses + Kreinik Metallic #8 Braid (042).   I look forward to adding charms, beads, buttons, etc.   I think there is another ribbon embroidery task to complete before the embellishing.

 Seven Fargo Roses - that don't really look alike!   Ribbon Embroidery is so new to me.   I forget how different surface stitching is to counted specialty stitches on linen.   

This is such a good course.   The information provided is exceptional.   I'm taking my time to learn and have enjoyed each task.

 And, yes, I did get my Bent Creek pattern finished into a pincushion - which I've been using.  The bobbin lace edge sewn on - it really is a small pincushion.  I used wool roving, pretty light weight.

 

CQ + Prairie Schooler projects

This is the next step in Kathy Shaw's class.

These are my ribbon violets -- After trial-n-error, they seem to be okay.

In addition to the ribbon embroidery,  GF Cathy B, blogging at With Needle and Thread,

helped me out with a complimentary pattern from Prairie Schooler.

A friend made a pincushion for me, years back, and I've used it so often, it is getting beat up!

I started a new one, on aida cloth.  

 It is a nice pattern and will grow up to be my new pincushion.

The rabbit needlebook, in above photo, is on the same color aida cloth.

Ribbons!

The next part of my CQ block

is making ribbon flowers.

A challenge.

I've done very little with ribbons.

I have purchased some & owned some from Pat Winter, now hanging up to get the wrinkles out!

Next week, I'll get a section done.

Started with some fabrics and Kathy's pattern.   I have added some tatted edge trims, and some surface stitching with perle coton, size 8.   Kathy provides templates to keep the stitches so even!    The next couple seams will have some embroidered chain stitches and stem stitching.   Stay tuned ....  

 

Porter Co Fair: Best of Show

And, while you are visiting her blog, check out her awesome textiles, (incl hand-dye ribbons ... like a piece of heaven on hearth) demonstrations, Art Fire (incl Bliss Kits) and her re-do of some digs for CLASSES : ) IMO - Pat is one of the most generous & kind persons on the planet -- very willing to share the basics, the how-to's in a step-by-step way She is enthusiastic, knows her stuff, and doesn't hover! She lets the creativity take over & enjoys the unfolding of creative processes After she showed me (actually us -- Karol & I) the ropes, it removed the mystery of CQ & with a few hands on demos, I was able to create some lovely ribbon roses, fancy surface stitches, and yes - even put together a start on a small project with bits of this-n-thats Pat shared from her studio stash: (this trim was white until we used ink pads to add a rainbow of color!) and a little help from her friend & local artist Ellen Anne Eddy who created labels for needlebook pages Bottom Line --- Run right over to see the list of classes from THIS POST Hope to see you there!!!
