Nicholas finished!

Yay :D This is Lavender & Lace "Fairy Dreams" by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum. c.1996 Told in a Garden. Nicholas finished over the week-end. (Nicholas is our 16yo son). After final exams (Wed, Thus, Fri) this week, he hopes to get working on the Sampler Gameboard.

I set aside EVERYTHING in order to get a couple ornaments stitched for my inlaws & my Mom. Plus, I need to get this household in order. The dust bunnies seem to be taking over.

Nick received this pattern & supplies from my Mom [his Grammy K]. He liked the birds & snowflakes! Once he finished it, she paid for the frame. Because of the glass, the image is difficult to photograph. But you get the idea!

Response to questions: Nicholas is our 16yo son. He bought the kit at Hobby Lobby [In the sale bin for $14.00] on March 7, 2006. At that time, I tried to talk him into a simpler project & he would not have it. It was THAT project he wanted to stitch. I started a photo album for his stitching (sidebar)

Here is the project Nicholas is stitching. He had to re-stitch the entire wing on the lower left side. It is Lavender & Lace: "Fairy Dreams" by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum. He purchased the kit (from the discount bin). He ran out of a couple #8 Kreinik braids & 2 floss colors. Maybe b/c of frogging -- I told him to keep working the piece & we'd go shopping for what he needs later on. (LNS is a 35-40 min drive)

I spent a lot of time in bed yesterday ... didn't accomplish much. This head cold is turning into a sore throat & chest cold. I snagged some of the 'Amethyst' Watercolours (drat) + will re-stitch. This a.m. DH said I am sounding worse instead of better. Yeah, I know "whine, whine, whine"

The bead issue seems silly; however, it will make a difference. With the darker bead on the edge -- it sorta looks like the DARK lines in a coloring book -- don't think I want that b/c the stitches are so lite & airy looking on the (side & corner) ends. With the yellow beads, they aren't very noticeable; however, keep the sides lite. (can enlarge the picture with a click)

I don't know Lili, maybe using the darker beads around the corners & the lighter bead in the sides might work. I keep looking at it wondering. I still have another side to do + frog-n-fix the snagged Watercolour.

Thanks for asking. This is a progress picture -- Stitching by Nicholas: I need to find the 007 Kreinik he needs. I have not been to the LNS. Did manage a trip to Hobby Lobby -- Alex was home from school with a cold. He fell asleep, so I went shopping!! Got some floss & stuff. Not a budget buster.

While browsing blogs this a.m., I came across a couple wonderful mail art exchange pieces. Check out Bea's envelope -- stitched by Chiara. Plus, Chiara has an envelope (on her blog) stitched by Blinne. These are so creative. I enjoy seeing all the exchanges : )

Our NANI EGA chapter is sponsoring a Mail Art Workshop on May 6th. I signed up : ) I'm looking forward to getting together with stitchers & creating an envelope. I found a nice on-line article about NANI's Camp Quality outreach program (& pictures). I think there might be an article in the next issue of NeedleArts magazine, too.

As of this morning: (Nicholas tells me he does not have enough of the mauve braid to complete the other sleeve. I told him to keep working & I'll find the braid!!)

I found Alexander's stitching & I hope to get that finished for him today. He was going to finish it himself; however, I want him to focus on his homework!! I'll be taking Tori back to college on Sunday (Alex wants to ride along) leaving DH & Nicholas in charge ...

Mentor in Action ...

How about this project?

Last Tuesday, our son, Nicholas, spotted a "kit" at hobby lobby. He decided on the spot that he wanted to learn how to stitch on evenweave. I'm like ok .... and suggested a smaller kit ... a learning kit. He would not have it. It was THAT kit or he'd stick with knitting (and he is a fine scarf knitter - IMO)

Once home, I got out some linen scraps and floss. Within a few minutes he got the hang of it. He had very few questions. Fast forward to today ... look at his progress:
