79: Covered button

I covered a plastic button with cotton fabric, small amount of fiberfill for rounded top - probably 25mm.  I used DMC Coton Perle 8, Col. 3042.

Pattern found in two books that I own.

 Pattern is called Victorian Flag in Nancy Nehring's book,

50 Heirloom Buttons to Make.

  Pattern is called The Empire in Gina Barrett's book,

Buttons a passementerie workshop manual.

 

70: Soutache braid button

This button is about 25mm.   Plastic button covered with cotton fabric, small amount of fiberfill for the dome top.  I used Iridescent Soutache Trim - 2.5mm by Merchant 41.

The pattern is in two books that I own.

 Pattern is called Bound Square in Gina Barrett's book.

 Pattern is called Diamond in a Square in Nancy Nehring's book.

I used a 7/8" square button, curved top - flat on the back.

I used a 38mm metal ring.

My supervisor is guarding my coton perle ... 

he is usually interested in buttonery!!!   Must be the fibers.

72: Leek Cross - traditional

I used a 20mm wooden mould.  (apx 3/4").

[A tad larger than the Children's Button, made in December.]

Presencia No.12 Perle

C/4218, Tint.873.

I purchased smaller wooden moulds.   Flat on the bottom, slight curve on the top.  They were

purchased from Burnley & Trowbridge Co. - Link here.

This is a 'Children's Button' [center] - you can see the wooden mould sizes that I had at the time.   Children's Button is apx 5/8".  I took the picture with perle cotton balls so you can see the size of the button.    Blog Post - link here.

73: Triangle Wrap

 

I purchased this hand dyed fiber from a vendor several years ago.

I only have a small amount left - I did show it to a girlfriend who owns

a fabric dye business.  I wouldn't know where to begin to try HDT --

It reminds me of brown twine.   Hard on the hands.

Liked the colors & give it a try on button mould.

1.5" wooden button mould.

Hand Dyed Fiber/twine.

This button pattern, called Change, was (started) on a 28mm metal ring.

So far, colors are similar to the pattern in the book.

Button 45: One Reproduction Button ..... Costume Button

 Schaumburg star w/foil + Needle weave points.

1" wooden bead.   DMC Perle 8 Color 321.

This button was created a few months ago, and I didn't care for the one I made then.  

Button w/Foil post ...

  I even added an edge.

I didn't think it was quite 'right', based on

the instruction and photographs in the book.

I like the new one.   I used a smaller button mold.   Actually a wooden bead.  

About an inch in size.   I started with DMC Perle 8, Color 321.

Switched to Coton Perle 5, Color 367 + Color 321.

The shiny paper was from a Hallmark envelope.
