Grateful for good friends ...

My GF Sue sent me a text.    Said she had a stack of
Piecework Magazines, back issues.    Did I want them .... and she noticed
a couple of articles on Buttons.

Article on Dorset Buttons, Article on Death's Head Buttons, Article on Crochet Buttons.

Thx Sue - -

Also, found some tatting patterns for buttons,
c 2013 Jennifer Williams
(Revised 2020).    I think there are 7 patterns.
Link here to Cariad Tatting , free tatting patterns and technique tutorials.
One pattern motif uses Daisy Picot -- which I just learned how to do ...
stay tuned.

Cord Making

The Lafayette Lacemaker's demonstrate annually at the Feast of the Hunters' Moon.
At the last meeting, we talked about lucet cord making (previous post),
and new-to-me finger loop braiding.

From their blog:    "For the next couple of meetings, we are going to acquaint ourselves with some of the period appropriate (Feast of the Hunters' Moon) fiber activities that people would see if they came into our homes (huts or tents). "

Direct Link:   https://youtu.be/GQpEcGfv-rY

With a little coaching from member Carolyn R, I think I got the hang of it.

In 2022, I participated in the demonstration.   My focus was on tatting.
Shuttles made of Horn, I did my best on simple tatting.  A challenge as they didn't have a pic.

Other members demonstrated bobbin lace and lace knitting.

btw, did you see the ad for Tulip (brand) embroidery scissors with the curved blade ?

Started with some fabrics and Kathy's pattern.   I have added some tatted edge trims, and some surface stitching with perle coton, size 8.   Kathy provides templates to keep the stitches so even!    The next couple seams will have some embroidered chain stitches and stem stitching.   Stay tuned ....

Look at the fun blocks!    oodles of ideas - colors, shapes.    Fun crochet.   I find their web site and facebook page full of ideas!

This lovely book, from the Japanese Book store combines crochet AND tatting ....

and, this publication embellishes dolls +doll clothing.   this volume with tatting, needlework, etc.   Such a fun publication.

inspiration for a winter night.

some progress

These are Jeannette Douglas Designs

I've got most of the silk over dye fiber stitched.   There are a few more motifs to add before the backstitch/outline and assembly.    This is a nice design, from my stash.   Chosen for the Biscornu SAL - along with FB group, All About Smalls.

And, decision:    I had my mind all made up, tatted a sample.   Tatted another sample.  I tatted samples x FOUR, and liked the one in the top right corner.

Lizbeth, size 80, color 168 Latte Foam.
seems the right size for the project - nice color - and should be sewn on later tonight or tomorrow.

Received in the post ...

What fun - Halloween designs in July..... a recent prize from Sandra Sullivan's giveaway via her web site + Facebook page.     I am so lucky!!!!     I went thru my fibers and HE charms and think I have most of the colors.   I may need to invest in a couple star/pumpkin charms.

AND, if you like bunny things, you might enjoy seeing the hand made shuttles from Carollyn.   They are so lovely.   Not sure I want to use them for tatting - may just enjoy looking at them!!!   Carollyn blogs at Carollyn's Tatting Blog.

Wonderful package - such an artist!

Quilts on exhibit

If you get the chance, stop by Lockport, IL
and see the quilts on display.

It is four miles from 355 in Lockport, Illinois.

I visited Sunday afternoon + caught the presentation, too.

NANI friend, Lynn, had gone and said some nice things about the information + quilts in the gallery. I headed out there (oh my, they really need to fix 80).

The display is up thru September 16, 2011 ....

Did I mention the Yarn + Tea store next door to the gallery?

Or the Quilt Store on the Corner? Oh yes, visited those, too.

Found this perfect size
Art Bin at the Yarn Store.

Yes, the size 20 fibers
fit well!!!

People who knit have the best stuff!
