Road Trip ....

When I started a Facebook account, I never dreamed I would re-connect with so many stitching friends. When I heard from Cathy, she told me about her new shop: Inspired Needle

Road Trip!!!! One morning, GFs Sue D & Debbie L went with me to Inspired Needle, Ltd.

We had a great time catching up on the news and browsing the new store. Lots of favourite designers -- tons of stitching goodies -- and I bought this:

Dutch Strawberries
The Goode Huswifec.2009

Cathy gave me a needle with the purchase. It is a BOHIN tapestry, size 26. I bought a pkg, too. I love them -- What a fabulous needle!

Check out Cathy's Facebook Page - or her Store's Web Site or become a Fan on Facebook. Better yet, when you are in Lemont, Illinois -- stop in and say 'hi". Tell her Lelia sent you : )

Primitive Bird

Primitive Bird
The Goode Huswife, 2003
The Goode Huswife's Book of Designs Volume No. 1

As much as I adore this pattern, I thought I'd try to add a bit of red over dye in place of 'WDW Rust'.
It does add a touch of color, so far, I like it
I may even sustitute one of the suggested fibers & add the golden orange overdye.
And, if I stopped swapping out fibers, I would already be done with this P.Bird!!!

Marking Sampler

I made a few changes & replaced the lettering in the sampler with names & '25'. DH & I celebrated our 25th Anniversary on Oct 1st. I used DMC floss on 35-ct Ivory Linen.

I pulled out three small samplers from the Basket of NAY* & will probably start one later this evening. I am determined to get thru these awesome patterns.

I started reading this & am enjoying it so far. I noticed there is a sequel coming out on November 25th. Web Site Here

WIP: made some changes ...

I added more motifs & completed the alphabet (at the top part):I was stitching away, and decided to change the alphabet characters inside the rest of the diamonds. I think I've figured out what I want to stitch next.

Be sure to check out the When Pink Matters blog!!

WIP progress pic & Ornament Mag

Received a phone call from House of Stitches this morning, the JCS 2008 Ornament magazines have arrived : ) I hope to pick mine up this week.

More progress on the motifs inside the diamond shapes. This marking sampler is delightful to stitch.

Thx to the on-line stitching friends who sent e-mails after seeing our region on the tv news. Yes, Northwest Indiana is recovering from all the rain over the week-end. We are doing ok. We had 11" of rain Sat-Sun. Lots of roads are closed & school cancelled today. Our home is fine - our drive had some water damage. Looking foward to sunshine in the next few days.

I'm also hoping to spot a new Gingher Designer Scissor called Roberta. I've seen a picture; however, haven't been to the fabric store to see if they have arrived.

WIP: Marking Sampler

Some progress as of last night:
I added more alphabet in the top row & filled in a couple of the diamonds. The flowers are a grey-blue color that isn't showing up well in the pic. It has been raining non-stop for a couple of days. I look forward to seeing some sunshine and a break from this rainy weather.
As for What Else is in my basket of NAY* ... stay tuned ...

On my "to read" list ... for too long:

If I had a dollar, for every time I've been asked about this book -- well, I'd have more than enough to buy a hardcopy!!
The Alchemist

I checked it out from the public library. So far, it reminds me of this book:
The Little Prince

English Translation - online here

I continue to jot down names & authors when I'm browsing thru blogs. Sometimes, I am afraid of story spoilers - and just scan info about books. It is great to get tips on awesome reads : ) My 2008 Book List

Eliza Parry 1838

Eliza Parry 1838. A Reproduction Sampler from The Goode Huswife. c.2008

Stitch count for this project is 164w x 138h. Chart still available at some LNS & ONS. Color key - DMC Floss

DMC Floss on 32-count Lambswool Linen. One of my fav motifs!

The graph is all cross stitch; however, I used the suggested DMC floss colors (on 32-ct lambswool linen) & stitched part of the zig-zaggie square -- using the Rice stitch. (lower right section on sampler)

Used DMC per chart on 32-count sandstone linen.

DMC floss on Sandstone Linen, 32-ct.

Another fabulous chart - and I enjoyed stitching these squares. I noticed the two linen choices made quite a difference.

I have a marvelous collection of repro samplers. Usually, I browse a selection & something about them speaks to me.

I tend to select flower baskets, fruit baskets, birds, critters, and ALPHABETS! I am over-the-moon when I spot a gem, second-hand!!

Gifts from Myrna!

Imagine my surprise! Myrna sent me an envelope of goodies : )
I love the fob (w/special charm), knitted dishcloth (which I don't want to actually USE in the kitchen), and a beautiful marking pin made by Ann Marie, Myrna's sister.

I found this pair of scissors which is a perfect match!!

Not wanting to take the dishcloth into the kitchen, I placed it under the clothespin dolls on my desk.

As you can see, I've been enjoying my sampler patterns & cheating a bit. Instead of working on a large sampler, I've been selecting basket motifs from patterns in my stash and stitching them ... Funness. More about this in my next post.

Contest Winner

I won this kewl pair of scissors from Jenna.

She had The Great Scissors Giveaway on Tale of a Shooting Star.

I went thru some of my patterns, looking for a fob to go with the scissors.

Guess What? They are a perfect match for my needlebook! Many thanks Jenna!

Update: Needlebook pattern is based on Two Pinkeeps by Anne Brown, The Goode Huswife

sigh ...

i wanted these to look better. I tried. I'm not very satisfied with the outcome. I started with nun edge & the linen 'fringed' -- realize the front design on the needlebook should have been over further as the motif is too close to the needlebook spine (that for starters). The beads were too loose on the pinkeep & I don't know what the secret to tight beads & charms can be -- but, i don't know it!! I tried several tassels & ended up with green, now I think they may be too big or too long. I just have given up.

A messy mess

on my desk ... and of course
NOT ENOUGH FLOSS

Finishing:
-Pumpkin Keeper (drawn thread freebie) I'm thinking pincushion & fob. Maybe try some cording for the fob with left-over floss. Not sure about pincushion decorations ... either cording or tassels. It is so pretty, I don't want to spoil the design
-Bent Creek The Black Cat -- into a small pillow -- maybe try to add some orange beads around the edge &/or tassels in black with orange beads (undecided) AND OUT OF BLACK FLOSS. Not enough orange either (sigh)
- Two Pinkeeps Goode Huswife) made a lot of color changes to this charming design -- ran short on linen. The pinkeep looks kinda big - but I wanted to add tassels. The smaller one with the inventory will become a needlebook if I can figure out how to do it with such small edges!!! May have to buttonhole around.

Only thing open today is Wal-Mart & they don't have all the floss colors.
