Before moving along to the next project ....

how about finishing one?  Needlework/stitching is completed.   I changed it a little bit from the pattern.   And added color to the project.   Photo from pattern on the left of the actual stitched rollup.   I put the scissors charm on the scissors keeper.   The pre-finished pieces are really fun to embellish.     I've been using the pieces while they were in progress for needles, scissors, fibers, thread winders, etc.
Almost -- I have a few tatting patterns out.   I'd like to edge the brown felt piece with some tatting.   The needlework is probably completed.   When I sew the tatted edge on, I will also sew the bottom of the stitched part - to create a pocket.

The Scissors pocket - fits inside the lowest pocket on the roll.   The back has a nice magnet for a book of needles, a needle rest - or just to keep the scissors inside.   The fancy pins were a gift from   Vickie    , who blogs at A Stitcher's Story.
This set is STITCHED - just not finished.   I need to sew the bottom of the front panels [to form a pockets] and sew the small piece into a pincushion.   I may use some tatted trim.   Not sure how I'll embellish the pincushion - it seems so small.
The stitched initials are from BBD A Stitcher's Journey.   The patterns, by Sandra Sullivan Homespun Elegance, Ltd.,  are pictured below.    I used Week's Baked Apple on the roll.   Simply Shaker Cidermill Brown for scissors, couple initials.   Also used Simply Shaker Heirloom Gold for the initial on the roll.   Dried Thyme [GAST] for all the green.   Crescent Colours Used Brick on scissor pocket, fold over + soon to be pincushion.   All the Blue from skein of Needle Necessities, Inc. #1342.   Amber Pearl Buttons, Scissors Charm, safety pins.   And, will add tatting this or next week.

While hunting down my amber pearl buttons ... I found my HE ABC ornament/fob pattern + supplies AND my Bent Creek snapper project.  They had been hiding from me -- I knew I put them someplace, and at last unearthed them.  I pulled out some fibers for the BBD Her Sampler.
I have mixed a few silk and cotton fibers.   I have linen, too.   It is hiding!   I want to finished the Homespun Elegance pieces first - then will pick up the alphabet sampler.   If you have not seen the sampler - visit the Blackbird Design blog and follow the link to the free pattern.

Color Play, Part One .... etc.

Do you read (follow) Mary Corbet's Needle N Thread?    Did you see her post about the Embroidery Thread Storage .... how neat and organized she is?   And, she wanted comments .... well, I looked at my project

and didn't think commenting that my threads were housed in an empty stationery box would be appropriate ( + were a knotted up mess.)  Guess I'll never have the 'neat stitcher' award.   Most of my projects, that are tossed in a bag or box, look the same - kinda messy.   At the end of the day, I toss everything back to keep things safe from the fur babies.

The bird is just suspended in mid-air,
should look better when the flowers are
stitched in....   )

Above - my start on Color Play.

Pre (work) stitching for NANI's
class.   It is apx 3" square.   Needs more
diagonal rows added in all the colors.

Maybe this week-end ...

Pincushion Parade!!!

Beth blogging at Love Laugh Quilt
is hosting a Pincushion Parade + asks
bloggers to share their collection.
Details on her post:  Pincushion Parade!!!

Here are some of mine:
I stitched and finished these needlerolls.
They are Shep Bush kits and Sekas designs.

Two of these beautiful pinkeeps were gifts. The Souvenir de France was
stitched + finished by GF Anna.   The Christmas Heart was
stitched + finished by GF Cathy B.   I stitched and finished the small
Sampler Pinkeep - and still have a small one half stitched!

I stitched and finished this Pin Cube.

This is a kit - wool I made a cupcake.  I made a few of the kits - fun to assemble.

given to me (and made by) GF Beth --- Tho, I confess
no pin has ever landed on the wool basket!

These, I use ALL THE TIME.   GF Sue made the Stick it Here.  It is the perfect
size for 'on the go' pincushion!!!   The other two were made by my Mom.
She had a yard of fabric + the designs were cut and sewn into pincushions.   She embellished
with quilting, beads, etc.   I use them ALL THE TIME.

Ok, time for YOU to share yours ; )

Land of the Free

Today is my youngest son's birthday. After a salad (and dessert) at Panera,
both of my sons and I went to Barnes and Noble.

I found this issue of Cross-Stitch & Needlework magazine & thought the BBD was nice:

Reward of Merit

BlackBird Designs c.2008
Buttons + Pins

I was looking for a WIP + pulled this one out of the 'stack'.

I had seen this all stitched up at
Inspired Needle
and HAD to buy the pattern + ingredients right away.

So, I wondered how long it had been sitting in my stitching basket.

I looked on my blog, according to this blog post,
I last added stitches on 11 January 2010.

As I picked up my linen and fibers, I enjoyed finishing up the outside border of diamond shapes.

The basket is made with chain stitches.
Flowers are made with buttonhole stitches.

Q & A + little bit of stitching

I stitched one motif
on the Pins & Tulips Pincushion pattern
from the Thank You, Sarah Tobias book
(Blackbird Designs)

I'm using DMC floss
and enjoying this design

- - - - - - - Q & A - - - - - - -
I received a few e-mails about this pattern

This comes in THREE different colors
(Belle Soie silk from Crescent Colours):
Rosebud (pink)
Kiwi (green)
Babbling Brook (blue)

Each chart has both the
BOX LID and BAG
directions

the pattern has options in
28ct, 32ct, 36ct & 40ct fabric

I thought I'd go into the store for the green
and when I saw all three, I chose the blue & pink!
I selected 32ct Bo Peep belfast for the pink
and
32ct cream linen for the blue

I probably will make box lid; however, if I do make a bag
I'd stitch the square & sew it onto some material

I thought the fringe with buttons was clever!

Pattern Link:     http://www.blackbird-designs.com/2009/04/our-first-contest.html

I stitched this sampler on 32-count linen using DMC floss #814, 815, 816
I enjoyed seeing other stitchers finished samplers pictured on these blogs:

I used my paternal Grandmother's name, Adeline Tomm, for this sampler
My grandmother was born May 4, 1897 in Pittsburg, PA
She married my Grandfather, George, on November 24, 1915
P.S.: The 'bird' motif on the sampler (pictured above) is from Summer House , Loose Feathers Pattern #14, c Blackbird Designs 2005

Thank You, Sarah Tobias

Blackbird Design Fans Yahoo group SAL continues (week three). I didn't stitch much this week! Maybe I'll get a couple more motifs stitched & made up into something special for week 4 : )

Blackbird Designs, Book SAL

The Blackbird Design Fans yahoo group is in the process of a Book SAL. Details HERE. My photos are not great. The pieces in-hand look lovely!
Motif on rose-colour linen, it is cloudy & maybe I can get an improved photo of the linen colour on a sunny day.

Motifs on ivory color linen scraps

I chose Sarah Tobias, the book with antique Pennsylvania Dutch sampler on the cover. There are several projects in the book; however, I decided to stitch individual motifs on linen scraps. I hope to finish them into small scissor fobs, pincushions, pinkeeps, or something. IMO-the motifs are quite charming!

I'm using DMC floss

Thx for your suggestions re. my perculating rash!! I'm having success with Zanfel wash and Benadryl Itch stopping Gel. Both are for Poison Ivy, Oak & Sumac. I'm about 80% certain it was Poison Sumac. I was wearing gloves in the garden so my fingers are clear -- wrists & forearms & lower legs kinda yukky. I have since purchased a barrier product to apply before weeding. I just wish the blistering had a faster healing process as I continue to find new 'spots' every day!

Progress Pictures ...

The Ann Holewll Sampler
With My Needle and Pen SAL
Got started on this repro. Doing more counting than stitching! The cross stitch & Double Back Stitch is over three threads. I should have these three bands completed by the end of February
I am using silk [from the kit] on 40-count linen

Moon Garden
Not much progress ...

Happy Hearts Sampler SAL
I'm having problems reading the chart. It has small boxes & small symbols. I'm going to have to get it enlarged at the copy center (inbetween snow storms) before I start on the motifs. Meanwhile, I continue on the alhabet letters.

Just had to buy these flowers at the grocery market

Stitching friends ...

I was adding more stitches to Moon Garden, and realized I had a Supervisor

After watching me stitch for 30 min or so, Honey (cat) decided it was time for a nap. Buddy (dog) in the background.

The weather is just windy and brrr cold. Per forecast, this wind (some snow flurries) will continue thru tomorrow. Never mind it was 50 degrees earlier today!!
