CQ Block: Task Ten (of 12)

Fargo Roses.   Challenge for them to be the same size.   Challenge to have them look similar.

CQ Block (so far).   I have two more tasks to do before it can be a finish.   This is part of Kathy Seaman Shaw's BCQC-101 class.   More information can be found here:   http://www.shawkl.com/.

Woven Roses + Kreinik Metallic #8 Braid (042).   I look forward to adding charms, beads, buttons, etc.   I think there is another ribbon embroidery task to complete before the embellishing.

Seven Fargo Roses - that don't really look alike!   Ribbon Embroidery is so new to me.   I forget how different surface stitching is to counted specialty stitches on linen.

This is such a good course.   The information provided is exceptional.   I'm taking my time to learn and have enjoyed each task.

And, yes, I did get my Bent Creek pattern finished into a pincushion - which I've been using.  The bobbin lace edge sewn on - it really is a small pincushion.  I used wool roving, pretty light weight.

Pincushion Parade!!!

Beth blogging at Love Laugh Quilt
is hosting a Pincushion Parade + asks
bloggers to share their collection.
Details on her post:  Pincushion Parade!!!

Here are some of mine:
I stitched and finished these needlerolls.
They are Shep Bush kits and Sekas designs.

Two of these beautiful pinkeeps were gifts. The Souvenir de France was
stitched + finished by GF Anna.   The Christmas Heart was
stitched + finished by GF Cathy B.   I stitched and finished the small
Sampler Pinkeep - and still have a small one half stitched!

I stitched and finished this Pin Cube.

This is a kit - wool I made a cupcake.  I made a few of the kits - fun to assemble.

given to me (and made by) GF Beth --- Tho, I confess
no pin has ever landed on the wool basket!

These, I use ALL THE TIME.   GF Sue made the Stick it Here.  It is the perfect
size for 'on the go' pincushion!!!   The other two were made by my Mom.
She had a yard of fabric + the designs were cut and sewn into pincushions.   She embellished
with quilting, beads, etc.   I use them ALL THE TIME.

Ok, time for YOU to share yours ; )

Vintage Pin Cube

Q&A -- re. Pin Cube. As far as I know, pins at one time were sold in cubes.

I did a google search. I found a couple links with photographs (and prices) of real pin cubes. Look Here, here, and scroll down a bit here.

The Christmas Pin Cube pattern was from Just Cross Stitch - December 2004. The back, stitched area, says 100 pins w/motif. Picture of front in my previous post.

I see Ellen Chester has Pair of Pin Cubes on her web site. Next to the stitched models is the cardboard antique inspiration.

Edited to add: Per Staci, there is a pin cube pattern in the December issue of Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly magazine. Volume 45. (which I had forgotten about) It is designed by Kathleen Starr Watt.

If anyone has a source for other patterns, please advise & I'll add to this post : )

Pin Pals aka Pincushions ...

For the second time this week, my post has posted before I finished typing and editing. I am not sure what I'm doing differently! I apologize for typing errors and general fumbling.

This afternoon, I checked this out from the public library:
What a nice book! (Web Link Here) I read a post by Annette about these charming pincushions and the spookie eye was such a hoot!! She has links on her post.

Meanwhile, my GF Marjorie went ahead and made a creepy eye overnight!! Marjorie also shared a link for these stunning teacup pincushions with little houses, trees, etc., on top. A must see: Mimi Kirchner creations!!

Makes my simple pincushions wimpy in comparison!
