These wooden pieces are really fun to stitch.   The kits have needle, thread, wooden pieces [with holes for threads].   Funness.

Pin: Love

Love, c. Birds of a Feather

Stitched over one thread on 32-count linen w/Anchor floss. 41W x 59H. I put the pin next to some of my thread winders so you could get an idea of the size.

"Spring Fling"

"Spring Fling"
c.2004 Homespun Elegance Ltd.
Designed by Sandra Sullivan

I enjoyed stitching this charming design. I made some changes to the design. All explained HERE . To finish into a small pillow (looks too cute displayed in a basket on the table) I used Mill Hill glass seed beads #02019 around the edge.

I bought the thread winders at House of Stitches. I've had my eye on them for some time. I saw them on the Skinner Sisters web site. Says they are made out of cattle "bone and horn". Just had to add them to my thread winder collection : )

As for my pillow form, I did find the RIGHT size on sale at JoAnn Fabrics. Next time I ever make a pillow -- I'll have to remember to have the finished size measure 12", 14", 16" or 18" square!! Otherwise, I'm not sure how to make a pillow form. This one had a zipper -- so, I guess it goes on the bottom? I'm such a newbie with sewing. There is a picture of the pillow case I designed HERE. It is an original design. I donated the pattern to The Applique Society.

Thank you everybody : )

I have a pretty good break-out of poison Ivy, Poison Oak or Poison Sumac on my forearms -- thus, have no stitching to share. Once it heals, I hope to get some needle & thread moving!

I appreciate the comments and e-mails to my last post. The thread drops I purchased are working out well for me. IMO are very nice -- I luv them.

AND, I was given a couple links, which I'd like to share here -- for more DIY [Do It Yourself] covered bobbins , covered bobbins (different shape), AND thread drops.

As I have been told [more than once] that some links on my blog aren't working, here are direct links:

MUST HAVES : )

Good Afternooon! How is everybody doing? Yesterday, GF Sue D & Deb L picked me up & we went into LaPorte to visit House of Stitches for NANI business. What a delightful time! While browsing, I picked up a couple MUST HAVES. I have new thread drops for my perle cottons. I enjoy stitching tabletoppers & I think the thread drops will be the answer to my storage needs. I like to store the perle coton fibers without worrying about the 'bends' from floss bobbins.

ALSO, I found a drawstring bag for my mending supplies -- It has room for small scissors, little pockets on the inside for spools of thread & the bottom is a pincushion.

This is what it looks like when open:It is small enough to be portable & I luv the drawstring closure.

Floss Bobbins

I have not been able to keep up with individual e-mails! Sorry, it has been quite busy around here.

For the person who asked about the web link, for the freebie pattern to make your own Embroidery Floss Bobbins:

I tried the link this a.m. & it was working. Direct link is: http://craftchi.com/blog/?p=610 OR Embroidery Thread Cards.

For the stitcher looking for the multiple color floss bobbins:

I bought them at House of Stitches in LaPorte, Indiana. They are see-thru plastic & I think the same thickness as the white plastic bobbins. I visited House of Stitches yesterday & they still had some : )

Q & A

Thank you for your kind comments! And, to answer some questions:

On May 5, 1998, I joined the local chapter, Needle Artisans of Northwest Indiana (NANI) of The Embroiderers' Guild of America, Inc. (EGA). TEN YEARS AGO!!! I've been stitching for 10 years : ) Happy Stitching Anniversary TO ME : )

The threadwinders seen in above photograph & pictured in this post are inexpensive, & purchased at Hobby Lobby. They were 50% off in the beading aisle. Called River Shell Pendant, Traditions, Natural Gallery. I bought a couple of them & use them as thread winders.

Satin Stitch - Heart Kit

Boo! Happy Halloween! This lovely heart (first photo) is another kit from The Victoria Sampler. It was given to me by a NANI friend. I spent a good deal of time locating the charm & beads for this one. As it was an 'in the car' project - I took out the charm/bead pkg & put it 'someplace' where it would not be 'lost'. Yeah -- what a fossil. Took me awhile to unearth the pkg!!! Later this afternoon, I plan to stitch the rest of it.

This is a kit I stitched up a few years back & finished into a heart ornament. It is Assisi Embroidery. I plan to finish the Satin Stitch heart (first photo) in the same way. As I recall, it was a doorprize at an EGA chapter event. These are nice kits as there are different fibers included & ENOUGH fibers included ... you know what I mean? Dreadful to run out of ingredients when you purchase a kit.

I started this kit at the Dentist's office waiting room ... & thought I might finish it up this week. I love the title of these hearts "Beyond Cross Stitch" as they sprinkle in specialty stitches. I'm really tired of the 'x' right now. I in the mood for other kinds of stitching.
Before you ask ... the threadwinders are from House of Stitches . They come in boxes of six & I couldn't resist purchasing the butterfly design [several designs available]. I have a thing for threadwinders. And, as always, click on the photo to enlarge [for those readers not familiar with blogging]
