Colorado, Pikes Peak Cog Railway

While in the Garden of the Gods, on a guided nature walk -- we learned many things.    And, since we were so close to Pikes Peak - the guide explained driving, hiking, or taking the train to the top ... We chose the Cog Railway train.    Cog Railway Webpage

1:20pm - last train of the day.

The train goes straight up ... takes over an hour.

Our Week-end in Colorado

DH and I were invited to a 100th birthday party.   Our friend's Mom!!!    Imagine being 100 years old?   No, neither can I.    The weather was near freezing in the am, afternoon 56-60 degrees and Sunny!!   As in, needed sunscreen.    Sunglasses and a Hat were a necessity.

I've never been to Colorado.    On Sunday, DH and I visited the Garden of the Gods.

We went on a nature walk (led by Pat - who was excellent) and I learned a lot about Colorado, the park, Pikes Peak .... train to Pikes Peak (stay tuned, more about the train tomorrow).

 (cheat sheet).

I enjoyed seeing the Magpie birds and  Big Horn Sheep.

Button 39: Six-Part Death's Head w/needle weaving

This is a 1.5" wooden button mould.
I used DMC Coton Perle #5.
Colors 445 + 517.

To answer question re. button moulds.   These are a few sizes that I have on hand.
They are used as a base for the fibers.
Flat wooden discs, curved top discs, wooden bead.   Sizes between 1.5" - 5/8".

Great Big THANK YOU to Nancy and Beth
for the fiber infusion, additional fibers are appreciated -- coton perle(s) and linen spool.
I used the blue from Beth in this button.    I usually use coton perle.
And still using the beeswax from Mel.  A little goes a long way.

Button 38: Schwalm Shirt Button

 Two of my supervisors.
Watching me with needle and fiber in hand.    Today, created some Schwalm Shirt Buttons.

The four white - round - buttons:

First was making the round balls.   I used 3.5cm round circle of cotton fabric,
running stitch, with Londonderry Linen (Ivory) thread 50/3.    Added some fiber fill.
Closed them tightly -- ready to embellish w/buttonhole stitches & add the shank.

Three were pretty close in size -- one was smaller.
The smaller one:  I used DMC coton perle 12, col Blanc.
The other three, I used DMC coton perle 8, col Blanc.

Thanks to Beth - for the linen thread (spool)!!
I am grateful for our friendship.

My supervisors want to be fed ...
